Voice setup for ChatGPT, Claude, and your phone, plus five "speak, don't type" prompt starters.
How to use this: Duplicate this page into your own Notion, or just keep it open. Start with the phone setup (two minutes), try one spoken prompt today, and only look at the desktop tools once talking feels normal.
You type around 40 words a minute. You speak around 150. Good AI answers come from good context, and context is exactly the thing nobody wants to type. Speaking makes it nearly free: the same 30 seconds that gets you one typed sentence gets you a full spoken paragraph, and the answer that comes back is dramatically better.
You don't need clean sentences. You need complete thoughts. AI understands "coworker rambling" perfectly well.
That's the whole setup. Every phone has this built in. There's also a second mic inside the ChatGPT and Claude apps that records audio directly; either works.
ChatGPT Voice Mode: the headphone-style icon starts a full spoken back-and-forth conversation. Best for thinking through a problem on a walk or in the car.
Mac: System Settings → Keyboard → Dictation → turn on. Then press the shortcut (often the mic key, or double-tap Control) in any text box, including AI chats.
Windows: press Win + H in any text box to start dictating.
Built-in dictation is free and fine for starting out. Its rough edges: it types your "ums," punctuates oddly, and needs cleanup.
